Millie Shield

Millie first discovered physiotherapy when she was 13, after experiencing the benefits personally after being diagnosed with scoliosis. Millie obtained her Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Monash University in 2010 and went on to do further training at the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School in Spain.

She then traveled to the Netherlands to complete a 3-year training program in advanced spinal rehabilitation. Whilst spinal rehabilitation is her specialty, Millie also has significant experience in post-surgical rehabilitation as well as sports, spinal and over-use injury and diagnosis. She has a passion for education and helping people better understand their bodies, recover from injury and improve their function.

Dr Tanya Cates is a seasoned University lecturer in anatomy and clinical patient evaluation for a variety of Universities including La Trobe University and Open Universities. Tanya combines her passion for anatomy, physiology and Kinesiology with exercise prescription to achieve client success. With a suite of qualifications including Massage Therapy, Exercise Physiology, Health Promotion, Diploma in Pilates Tanya is especially proud of her Doctorate: Engagement in ‘The Good Stuff’ Physical Activity Program: Outcomes and Experiences.

In addition to her early Pilates qualification, Tanya has travelled globally to study extensively under titans of the Pilates community. Exercise should be engaging and enjoyable, and Tanya works with this philosophy to unlock a greater sense of happiness and value in every individual she works with.

Jaclyn Thurley
Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

Jaclyn Thurley is a Titled Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and the founder of The Pelvic Studio, a physiotherapy practice with expertise in pelvic health.

Jaclyn treats both pelvic and musculoskeletal/sports conditions and strongly believes in holistic patient-centred care, treating both the internal and external structures of the pelvis.

Scott is a Hobart pharmacist with over 20 years of experience across three countries. After graduating from the University of Tasmania, he travelled to the UK and Ireland, working in, and managing, various community pharmacies over a 7 year period. During his final two years in Dublin, Scott provided the pharmaceutical care to SIMS IVF patients.

After arriving back home in Hobart, Scott spent two years working at Calvary Hospital before becoming the managing partner of a community pharmacy business. More recently, he has been spending some time as a tutor and examiner of fourth year pharmacy students at UTAS.

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist

Emma has a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Newcastle, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation from the University of Melbourne. She works as Senior Physiotherapist in Pelvic Health and Continence at the Royal Hobart Hospital, as well as privately at The Pelvic Studio. Emma is passionate about empowering patients at all stages of life to better understand their bodies (and especially their pelvic floor) in order to lead active lives.

Sharon is a retired registered nurse, has a Bachelor of Nursing, is a Clinical Teaching Associate and has post graduate degrees in Couple Therapy and Sexual Health Counselling.

Women’s Health has featured strongly throughout Sharon’s career. She believes strongly in the need for women of all ages to have the knowledge and confidence to seek help not only with pelvic floor and continence issues, but with all aspects of moving and using their bodies safely, particularly as they age.

Sharon looks forward to working with members of WHEN and women over 65 to help raise health awareness, have fun and provide support along the way.

Liz has a wide range of experience in a variety of health fields. She's worked for 30 years in the physiotherapy field in both the private and public services before moving into a policy based role with the Tasmanian Government. Here she was able to provide strategic advice and analysis in a number of fields, as well as assisting with clinical projects. Liz has in addition to this completed a  Masters in Psychology, and completed a Doctorate of Health both at the University of Tasmania.

Kate has always had a passion to move and to teach. After finishing school Kate completed her Certificate 4 in fitness through the Australian Institute of Fitness before moving to Melbourne to study dance full time at Patrick School of the Arts. Since that time she has also completed a Diploma of Contemporary Pilates through Tensegrity training. Kate has worked as a Personal Trainer, Dance teacher and Pilates instructor in Hobart and Melbourne over the last 15 years. She is about to commence a course in delivering best practice care to people with cancer through exercise.

Amy is a communications graduate from The University of Tasmania, who while working in IT, also undertakes freelance writing gigs. She has written for volunteer organisations like Rights Now - an online human rights publication and the Australia Times.

 

Chrissy Tadros
Sports Physiotherapist

Chrissy has been working as a physiotherapist since 2009, completing her Sports Masters in 2017. She has had experience working with athletes from club to national level, and from youth to senior. Chrissy’s passion involves working with women in sport, both in terms of the physiological differences, and the social barriers to exercise. She enjoys educating female athletes in the community on injury risk and improving performance in hope to inspire physical activity and wellbeing throughout their lifespan. 

Morgan Kent
Pelvic floor physiotherapist

Morgan is a pelvic floor physiotherapist who is passionate about helping people achieve their pelvic floor best at all stages of life. Morgan has extensive experience managing pelvic floor conditions for all genders, pregnancy and postnatal care and pelvic floor rehabilitation, including Pilates and yoga. Morgan graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from LaTrobe University in 2010 and later completed her Graduate Certificate (Pelvic Floor) in 2015, and a Master of Public Health in 2018 at the University of Melbourne. Originally from a small seaside town in Victoria, Morgan relocated to Hobart in early 2019. Morgan loves to keep active by walking or getting out on her trusty bike in rain, hail or shine, or her digging in her veggie patch.

We would like to introduce our first WHEN ambassador Tracy Doak from De Stijl Hair.
Tracy's passion for supporting women in the hairdressing industry has been infectious and inspirational. This amazing woman is a trailblazer in the importance of caring for women’s long term health in her industry. Not only is she an amazing woman she has won numerous awards in the hairdressing industry as well.
